In the grand scheme of things, 5 inches of lawn is not a big deal. See, there are wars going on. Not the conflicts we see on the news, but real wars. Wars where entire civilizations fight across the stars to secure entire sections of the Galaxy! One or more of them are here, now, on this very street. Have they brought their intergalactic fights with them? Is this 5 inches the first battle line? Where does it stop?
